Getting there

A direct flight from the UK to Japan usually takes around 11-12 hours. Japan Airlines and ANA All Nippon Airways offer direct flights from the UK, linking with several Japanese cities. British Airways also have a daily scheduled service directly to Tokyo. Indirect flight routes to Japan are great value for money and do not take much longer than direct flights. Airlines such as Finnair, Air France and KLM fly from the UK to Japan in around 14 hours, with a short stop-over in their regional hubs in Helsinki, Paris or Amsterdam.

This is a beautiful city of temples, geishas and gardens. Take a wander through Gion, a district of Kyoto; a historic part of the city, also known as the Geisha district. Visit historic Nara, once home to Japan’s Emperors. Try to visit Japan in spring for a chance to see the famous cherry blossom. Experience the world-famous Bullet Train and Japan’s other services. When to go

The best time to visit Japan is from March through to May when the temperature is pleasant and the cherry blossom trees are usually in blossom in the latter part of March. Summer, from June through to August, can be hot. June and July are generally the wettest months with monsoon rainfall. Winter, from December to January can be very cold, with snowfall possible.
