Start your tour in modern capital Beijing. Then a high-speed train to the ancient capital Xi’an, before finishing with the metropolis of Shanghai. This classic route is a great choice for first-timers to China.Accommodation is in 4-star hotels with breakfast. Private tour with no set departure dates. International flights not included.
Day 1 Arrive Beijing
Met on arrival and privately transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Hotel: Kuntai Royal Hotel for 3 nights
Day 2 Beijing
Visit the Great Wall of China at the Mutianyu section. A less visited section but with spectacular scenery and breathtaking views. On the return to the city visit the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube where some of the 2008 China Olympic Games were held. In the evening you have the option to try out an authentic Roast Peking Duck dish for an extra £60pp.
Day 3 Beijing
Enjoy a guided tour of the city. Highlights include Tian’anmen Square, the Forbidden City (closed Mondays) the royal residence of the last two dynasty emperors and their family. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace. Option to add a Kungfu show for an extra £50pp.
Day 4 Beijing to Xi’an
Morning at leisure before a transfer to the station and an afternoon high-speed train to Xi’an. Journey time around 5 hours. High speed trains in China are very high tech, clean and offer comfortable seats. Met on arrival in Xi’an and transferred to your hotel. Upgrade to First for an extra £60pp. Hotel: Courtyard by Marriott Xi’an North for 2 nights
Day 5 Xi’an
A chance to experience the world wonder that is the Terracotta Warriors on a guided tour. In the afternoon visit the ancient City Wall and a stroll in the Muslim Quarter. Add an evening Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show for an extra £60pp.
Day 6 Xi’an to Shanghai Morning at leisure.
In the afternoon fly to Shanghai. Met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Hotel: Grand Mercure Shanghai Century Park for 2 nights
Day 7 Shanghai
Enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the Oriental Pearl Tower. Then highlights of a tour include a stroll on the Bund to check out the landmark area of the city, a cruise on the Huangpu River, the classic Yuyuan Garden, the Old Town, a local market, the artsy Tianzifang and Xintiandi for old traditional Shanghai buildings. Option to add an Era Acrobatic Show for an extra £115pp.
Day 8 Depart Shanghai
Morning at leisure before your transfer to the airport to complete your itinerary.
