Christine visited Hong Kong in September and we asked her a few questions about her trip…

What were your first impressions of Hong Kong?

I have always wanted to visit Hong Kong as a child and the destination lived up to my expectations . I love to sit by the window in the plane and was not disappointed when we arrived over Hong Kong. The first view I got of the city is of its legendary skyscrapers right by mountains and lots of greenery.

What surprised you about the city?

The smells & a lot more green spaces than I imagined

Is it expensive?

Hong Kong is a city, which isn’t as expensive as you might think – you just need to do it the right way. Their version of the tube is called the MTR. You can buy an Octopus Card which is an extremely versatile stored-value electronic card that can be used on most forms of public transport( The MTR & buses ) as well as for purchases in convenience stores, fast food shops, supermarkets, vending machines and more. If it ever runs low on value, you can top up at thousands of stores in Hong Kong. Also, upon departure at HKG APT if you don’t use all the funds you can obtain a refund . The buses were clean and efficient. The metro station was almost always packed, but people were hardly pushy unless you were unlucky enough to experience an MTR station at rush hour.

What kind of traveller will Hong Kong appeal to?

As Hong Kong is a melting pot of cultures and a truly global city. An international hub, with one of the world’s most iconic skylines, a ton of tourist attractions plus beaches and country parks right on our doorstep. And with 8 million people living on top of each other, there’s a whole load crammed into this tiny territory. I would say it appeals to everyone.

When you think back on your trip, what is the one moment that summed up the Hong Kong experience for you?

I was stood on the roof terrace at the Harbour Grand Hong Kong Hotel , overlooking the iconic skyline and watched the free light & music show ( which takes place at 8 & 9 pm every night ) It felt like I was in a film set.

Where does Hong Kong rank in your top 10 places you have visited?

In the top 5 cities in the world ( which I have visited to date! )
